26 witnesses examined in Nowshera acid attack case so far

SRINAGAR: A prosecution witness recorded her statement before the court of Principal District and Sessions Court here on Wednesday in Nowshera acid attack case taking the number of witnesses examined to 26.
Advocate AA Teli, special prosecutor for the case, said the trial was going on a fast track basis.
A law student faced an acid attack in Nowhsera on December 11, 2015, from an alleged stalker.
A friend of the victim deposed before the court on Wednesday about the attack. She informed the court that the victim was taken to SKIMS Soura for treatment soon after the attack and was under observation for three days during which period she used to visit her.
She also told the court that police arrived “after we had taken the victim to hospital”.
Previously, court had been told that call details of the accused have been retrieved and submitted to the investigation officer.
The accused duo Irshad Ahmad Wani alias Sunny and Muhammad Omar were arrested almost a fortnight after the incident.
The police has sought punishment for the accused on three counts under Sections 326-A (voluntary throwing acid to cause grievous injury), 120-B-9 (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
If proven, these sections can get of rigorous imprisonment for 10 years, which can be extended up to life imprisonment.
Initially, Advocate AA Teli was representing state in this case as public prosecutor and later he was appointed as special prosecutor for conducting proceedings of this case on behalf of state.
