Srinagar: Suspected militants attacked a company of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday evening at Sanat Nagar Chowk in Srinagar. CRPF spokesperson Rakesh Yadav told Kashmir Reader that a company was on way to their camp at Rawalpora when militants opened fire on them.
“The vehicle of C-29 battalion came under fire by militants at Rawalpora, but no one was injured… all our personnel are safe,” Yadav said.
A police official posted in the area informed that the CRPF company was driving a bullet-proof bunker to their Rawalpora station when it came under fire. “The attack took place at main chowk Sanat Nagar where few shots were fired at it,” he said.
He said that additional forces were rushed to the area and a search operation was launched to nab the assailants.
“We have received various reports, one of which says the militants were in a car, and another that says they were two in number, riding a two-wheeler,” he said. “The militants, after the attack, are believed to have fled the spot on foot.”
The CRPF spokesperson informed that the CRPF personnel aboard the vehicle were on duty at civil secretariat for the whole day. “Their camp is located in Rawalpora area and they were returning from duty,” he said.
