Baramulla: Top Jaish-e-Mohammad commander Khalid who was killed by the government forces on Monday in a brief encounter at Ladoora in Rafiabad was laid to rest in “martyrs” graveyard here in Gantamulla area of Baramulla along the Jehlum river banks.
A source said that slain militant’s body was shifted to police lines Sopore and was handover to Baramulla police which got his body buried at about 11 pm on Monday night. Around two dozen people including some policemen were present and they offered funeral prayers for the slain militant. Over 50 non-local militants were buried in the graveyard from past two years. The government adopted the policy of burying the non-local militants in hush-hush manner in the graveyard to avoid mass funerals after Lashkar commander Abu Qasim got hero’s farewell in Kulgam in 2015. Massive public participation in his funeral prompted police to set up makeshift graveyard for burying slain non-local militants along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway.
