SRINAGAR: Three Day workshop on Research Methodology in Humanities and Social Sciences began on Tuesday at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora. The event is being organised jointly by Department of Arabic Language and Literature and Department of Islamic Studies (IUST).
The inaugural function was attended by famous academicians within and outside the state along with faculty, scholars and various officials of the university.
Prof A R Kidwai and Prof Sanaullah Nadwi, both from Aligarh Muslim University, delivered the keynote address. Prof Kidwai touched upon the various vistas of Qur’anic translations down the ages to present context. He highlighted the need of good research to counter the culturally biased translations of the Orientalists.
Prof Nadwi highlighted various problems and deep prospects of research in humanities and languages. He proposed some measures like establishment of indigenous publication houses, courses on research methodology and easy access to manuscripts in the research institutes.
The inaugural session concluded with the formal address by Vice Chancellor-IUST, Prof Mushtaq A Siddiqi.
