Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said at a gathering of students at the SKICC on Monday that children in Kashmir were being used at the forefront of violence, evidently referring to the violence against the state. “I have met 22 pellet victims who are very young and innocent. They were used and put at the forefront of violence,” Mehbooba said.
Without naming anyone, Mehbooba said that children were facing distress due to some people who use them. “The situation is very disturbing for them,” she said.
The students’ gathering was organised to inaugurate the Kashmir leg of the Bharat Yatra that Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi is leading to spread awareness on violence against children.
She also spoke of different forms of violence perpetrated on children, including sexual abuse. “You shouldn’t be afraid of sharing with your parents about any bad touch or intention of someone,” she said to the students.
“My request to the parents is to talk with their children to find out if they are suffering from any kind of abuse, be it at home or school or anywhere else,” she said.
