Condemns Mirwaiz’s continuous house detention
SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Monday strongly denounced the continuous house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, terming such “arbitrary acts” as “hegemonic and revengeful”.
A spokesperson of the conglomerate in a statement said while entire Kashmir is up in arms against the shameful assault on the dignity of its women folk by cutting their braids mysteriously and is vehemently protesting it, the government and its forces especially police after failing to crack the rising cases of braid chopping in Kashmir and to hide its failures, it keeps resorting to cracking its whip on braid chopping protests, jailing the resistance leadership and imposing curfews and restrictions to harass people.
He said government is “deliberately” adopting a dilly-dallying approach in finding those behind these shameful incidents and so far it has completely failed in protecting the honour and dignity of Kashmir’s women folk.
The spokesperson strongly criticised the government for resorting to frequent imposition of curfews in downtown and caging a huge population “under a well-planned policy to crush the resolve of people there and to choke the economy of downtown as it is the oldest business hub of Kashmir”.
