Srinagar: Clashes erupted in the southern town of Anantnag on Sunday after local youth took to streets against alleging police highhandedness.
The clashes were reported from Reshibazar area of the town, reports said.
A shutdown is being observed by the traders of the town for the second consecutive day today against police. The traders threatened of an indefinite strike unless their demand, transfer of SHO Sadder police station, is not fulfilled.
Traders alleged that police lobbed teargas shells inside their shops in the old town area during clashes with protesters after Friday prayers.
