Mentally challenged person mistaken as braid-chopper, thrashed in Kangan

Kangan: A mentally challenged person was mistaken as a braid-chopper and thrashed by mob in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.
Identified as Sajad Ahmad Raina Son of Sonaullah Raina resident of Hariganwa Kangan was caught and thrashed by mob mostly the passers after they found him roaming around suspiciously at main Market Kangan Stuarday afternoon.
A police party was rushed to the spot which rescued the mentally abnormal person from the clutches of the mob after firing some tear smoke shells and chased the protesting mob away.
A senior police official said that initial investigation revealed that the person is mentally unstable and was roaming in Kangan market where some people mistook him as a braid chopper.
“In this regard FIR No 92 has been registered in Police station Kangan against six persons for rumour mongering and disturbance of law and order,” the official said.
