SRINAGAR: Protests erupted Thursday in Baghat area of uptown Barzulla locality here after a woman narrated to her family that two persons chopped off her hair locks.

Family told Kashmir Reader that the victim (name withheld) was outside her home in Chinar Colony Baghat to empty a garbage bin when two men, not wearing any mask, approached her and cut her hair before fleeing from the spot on a bike.

“They fled from the spot immediately on a bike after chopping off her hair,” said victim’s husband.

According to him, the woman was alone and there was no one around when the incident took place.

“She was unconscious when people saw her. We immediately rushed to hospital for treatment,” said the husband.

As soon as the news of the incident spread in the area, people came on roads and held dharna on Bhagat Barzulla road.

“Police has failed to bring the culprits to justice. It seems they are shielding them,” said the woman’s mother in law. She was also part of the protest.
