Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will continue questioning member of J&K Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sheikh Abdul Rasheed – who goes by his alias Engineer Rasheed – on Friday.
It will be the fourth consecutive day that he will be grilled by the NIA sleuths.
The Kashmir MLA, who represents Langate constituency, is being questioned in the NIA’s alleged funding case.
The NIA on May 30 had registered a case of alleged funding to resistance groupings in J&K and has arrested 10 persons.
The detained persons include seven top pro-freedom leaders, a top business man, a photo-journalist and a farmer.
Rasheed is an independent legislator who has won twice from Langate since 2008. He was a civil engineer with the Jammu And Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation before entering electoral politics. After his first successful stint as MLA, Rasheed formed the Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) a few years ago.
Speaking to this newspaper from JK House, Delhi, on Wednesday, Rasheed had said, “NIA is unnecessarily questioning me. They are asking me about my relations with incarcerated businessman Zahoor Watali.”
His spokesperson, Inam-un-Nabi, told Kashmir Reader that Rasheed was continuously questioned since 10 am on Thursdayand that the MLA came from the NIA offices around 6:30 pm.
“He was asked by the NIA investigators to report back at 10 am on Friday,” he informed.
The NIA case has registered the case at its Police Station in New Delhi following a Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI) Order, F.No. 11011/26/2017-IS.IV, dated 30th of May, 2017.
Several others, including lawyers, chartered accountants, trade leaders and a scholar, have also been questioned.
