Lovebird mistaken as braid-chopper, thrashed in Ganderbal

Ganderbal: In another bizarre twist to the ongoing mass hysteria surrounding the braid chopping incidents, the people in Kujar area in Ganderbal district mistook a youth as braid-chopper.

A police statement said that on Wednesday evening locals of Kujar area caught hold of a youth who they alleged was a braid chopper. Following the tip-off, a police team reached the spot and suspicious person was brought into the custody.

SSP Ganderbal in a press briefing said that after preliminary questioning, it became clear that the youth Muzaffar Ahmad Wani hailing from Khalmulla village had gone there to meet a girl he was running an affair with. The girl is a resident of Nuner village and presently residing in the house of her sister at Kujjar. The boy was spotted while approaching the girl when some locals mistook him as braid-chopper.

The girl also confirmed that she was running affair with the boy and he was approaching her on a rendezvous.

“An FIR 202/2017 U/S 147, 323, 341 RPC was registered and further investigation into the matter is going on,” police said.

The police also requested people not to fall prey to rumours and reiterated that legal action will be taken against those seeking attention in the garb of braid chopping.

Police said that rumour-mongers will be dealt as per law.
