Dignity of Kashmiris at stake: Geelani

SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday said the life, honour and dignity of Kashmiris is at stake and that people are feeling insecure.

In a statement, Geelani while terming the prevailing situation as “extreme worrisome”, said “in (the) occupied state and under the shadow of gun, people are living a miserable life and in an atmosphere of uncertainty”.

He said BJP and RSS leadership is ignorant about sensitive nature of Kashmir issue and that “illegal tricks and follies” can never do away with this serious issue.

“Millions of people are affiliated with this issue and India (for the) last 70 years (by) utilising its military might and deceit, failed to change and alter its nature,” he said. On the unabated cross LoC shelling, the Hurriyat chairman called upon India and Pakistan to observe restraint. “God forbid any flare can culminate into a full-fledged war in the subcontinent and no one can bear the aftershocks and devastations of war.”

“How long will India ignore the historical facts of the issue and deceive the international community. The right of self-determination movements are gaining momentum and garnering support at international level,” Geelani said. He said the international community should take serious and effective diplomatic steps for final and lasting solution to Kashmir issue.

The Hurriyat chairman also suggested Pakistan to deal with Kashmir issue “as an important party and in a responsible and effective way”. Commenting over the braid chopping incidents, Geelani said those involved in this heinous crime and disrespect for womenfolk are worst than Satan.

“People need to be united, organise mass movement and strive against this troublesome situation so that all nefarious and inhuman designs are made a failure as in past,” Geelani said.
