SRINAGAR: In view of the straining future power market, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday asked the State Power Development Cooperation to exploit the huge potential of solar energy in the state. She asked the corporation to come up with a quantifiable data of the losses suffered by the state due to Indus Water Treaty (IWT), an official press note read.
The chief minister said this while chairing the Board of Directors (BoD) meeting of J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) here on Tuesday. According to the press note, the chief minister advised the corporation to explore the possibility of setting up of small solar power plants at district levels to meet the power requirement locally. This, she said, would be in view of the low cost of production in terms of solar power and also keeping in mind the straining power market in future.
The chief minister also asked the corporation to “undertake an in-depth study for quantifying the losses suffered to the state due to Indus Water Treaty”. She asked for using all professional expertise for the purpose. “Execute a policy of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the welfare and development of its catchment areas,” she asked the corporation.
Earlier, Managing Director JKSPDC, Dr. Shah Faisal briefed the meeting about various initiatives of the corporation. He said the process of allotment on the Rs.900 crore PMDP projects has already been started and a CSR policy to preserve and promote the art, culture and heritage of the state has been put in place by the corporation.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh; Minister of State for Power, Syed Farooq Andrabi; Chief Secretary, B. B. Vyas; Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Choudhary; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal; Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta besides several directors of Power Development Corporations were present in the meeting.
