Five militants killed near LoC: army

Baramulla: Army on Monday claimed to have killed five militants near Line of Control in Kupwara and Baramulla districts.
Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that two militants were killed while they were trying to infiltrate into this side from Rampur sector of Uri on Monday. “Two weapons have been recovered and operation is in progress,” he said.
The operation started previous night and was on when this report was being filed.
In another gunfight along LoC in Tangdar of Kupwara district, army claimed that they killed three militants. They said the search operation is on in the area.
Three militants were killed and two weapons recovered from them, an army spokesperson said.
A police officer told news agency Global News Service that a joint team of army’s 20 RR and 6 Gadwal, manning the Balthania post along the LoC in Tanghdar sector, noticed some suspicious movement on wee hours on Monday.
“The group of the infiltrators entered few meters towards this part and on noticing the movement, the army opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter in which four militant have been killed so far. The operation was going on, the police officer said.
He said that an army officer (lieutenant), Rahul Sheikh, was among four soldiers injured in the gunfight. While officer and another soldier have been admitted in military hospital Drugmulla, two remaining injured soldiers were airlifted and admitted to 92-base hospital at Badamibagh here for specialized treatment.
The police officer said that three militant bodies have been recovered along with 4 AK rifles.
