‘Attempts being made to integrate JK with India’
SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday said Jammu and Kashmir is the only place in the world where people are “traumatised” and living in continuous pain and distress.
In a statement, Geelani expressed deep shock and grief over the “continuous attempts of strengthening occupation by Indian authorities through its military means”. He said people are pursuing their right to self-determination for the last seventy years and for their conviction and commitment, are subjected to “extreme brutalities”.
Slamming the PDP-BJP led coalition government for their “unceasing attempts to pamper state’s political, cultural, economic and historical status”, Geelani said the RSS chief Mohan Bhagat and all those affiliated with ruling parties in state and New Delhi through their “unwise” statements are pleading and favouring complete integration of state with India.
“All these steps and attempts illustrate that India does not want to resolve Kashmir issue through political means,” he said.
The Hurriyat chairman said, “Our peaceful struggle for right to self-determination has now passed on to third generation. We are quite confident that our youth, intellectuals, lawyers, writers, journalists, trade fraternity and people from all walks (of life) will play assigned role for their democratic and political rights.”
Appealing the UN Secretary General, OIC and the international community to find a durable and early settlement of Kashmir issue, Geelani urged them to take notice of the “appalling situations” in Jammu Kashmir and mounting tension between two nuclear powers and “save humankind from going extinct”.
He also urged UN Human Rights Commission to take cognisance of “rights abuses” in J&K and asked it to send a fact-finding mission to ascertain the ground realities.
