SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Sunday strongly denounced the continuous house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq “even on the eve of the sacred occasion of Ashoora”, saying that disallowing Mirwaiz from carrying out social, political and religious activities is nothing but a political vendetta on part of government.
A spokesperson of the conglomerate in a statement said for the last several decades, Mirwaizeen have been addressing religious gatherings on the eve of Ashoora and Mirwaiz was scheduled to address gathering at Alam Sahab (RA), Narwara to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and martyrs of Karbala.
“However, due to (continuous) house detention, Mirwaiz couldn’t make it to the venue,” he said and denounced the government decision to impose restrictions in 13 police stations and converting entire Srinagar especially downtown into a military garrison.
Meanwhile, reacting to the RSS chief Mohan Baghwat’s statement that Indian Constitution needs to be amended to fully assimilate Jammu Kashmir with India, the spokesperson said Baghwat should go through history and he will come to know that Kashmir is a dispute acknowledged by the world’s highest forum UN.
“Baghwat seems to have forgotten that there are 18 resolutions with regard to Kashmir issue pending before the UN for implementation. Kashmir issue has to be either resolved through implementation of UN resolutions or through tripartite talks between India Pakistan and the main party the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.
“No power on earth can change the basic nature of Kashmir dispute, neither would any power prevent the pro-freedom leadership and freedom loving people of Kashmir from demanding their birth right of self-determination,” the spokesperson said.
