Jammu: Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh, on Sunday called for abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
“The BJP has not diluted from its basic stand,” he told reporters in Jammu at his official residence.
Dr Singh reportedly said that the BJP had set 44 plus target in last state assembly elections which the party could not achieve and got only 25 seats.
The statement of state BJP came a day after RSS chief called for amendments in Indian constitution for assimilation of J&K in to India n union.
“If we would have got 44 plus,” he said, “the things would have been different.”
“Since BJP is in alliance with PDP,” he said, “we have decided to keep status quo on constitutional issues under agenda of alliance.”
The DyCM, however, supported scrapping of “special status”.
“The Article 370 has done more harm than anything,” he replied when asked about state BJP’s stand while quoting statement of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Singh was first in J&K to support scrapping of “special status” after yesterday’s statement of RSS chief.
He also supported review of holidays in Jammu and Kashmir including of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah.
“We have written to CM and also support demand to declare holiday on Sept 23 – the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh,” he added. “Government should review holidays in State.”
