IGP Traffic issues directions for keeping Jawahar Tunnel open 24×7
SRINAGAR: In connection with the direction passed by the Minister for Horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari in a recent meeting regarding making Jawahar Tunnel operational round the clock during fruit season, Inspector General of J&K Traffic Police on Thursday assigned tasks to concerned police officers to ensure smooth, safe and timely transportation of horticulture industry produce to outside the state, an official press note read.
IGP Traffic directed SSP Traffic Rural and SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban to give priority to the movement of fruit vehicles from the valley towards Jammu.
He directed SSP Traffic City Jammu, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban and SP Traffic Rural Jammu for pasting one-point checking sticker on the fruit vehicles to ensure hassle free movement.
SSP Kulgam, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban will ensure opening of both tubes of Jawahar tunnel round the clock for hassle free movement of fruit vehicles in view of the ongoing fruit season.
Director Horticulture Kashmir in collaboration with J&K Bank will also put a special fluorescent sticker on fruit vehicles so that these vehicles are identified from a distance, the press note added.
Lauding the efforts of J&K Police for taking measures to ensure hassle free transportation of horticulture produce, the minister said that the government has undertaken a holistic programme for ensuring equitable and sustainable development of horticulture sector of the state. He said that the initiative would fetch good returns to traders as well as growers, it further added.
