Class V student’s mane chopped off in Bandipora
Bandipora: In first instance of braid chopping in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a 12-year-old, class V student’s mane has been chopped.
Identified as Iffat Farooq from Nathpora village in the outskirts of district headquarters, she was alone at home when someone clad in burqa hold of her, Afroza, her mother said.
The family members were out of home tending to their fields. Iffat said a burqa clad person wearing black gloves attacker her when she was sitting at the verandah of her house. “The veiled person held me by neck on the veranda and cupped my mouth, after that I don’t remember anything,” Iffat said.
Iffat’s father Farooq Ahmad Wani said that when he returned home he saw Iffat lying unconscious on the veranda. “I lifted her and the chopped braid came in my hands,” he said.
Locals said there was suspicious movement of people from outside state and few burqa clad women were seen selling medicines door-to-door.
After the incident, Iffat was referred to district hospital Bandipora wherefrom she has been referred to SKIMS Soura.
The incident created scare among the locals. Police immediately swung into action and issued advisory to all the village heads to report the issue if any unknown or suspected person is found roaming unnecessarily. Same has been advised to announce through loudspeakers. “In this case helpline numbers have also been issued so that the public remains cautious and it will also help in nabbing the culprits”.
