Srinagar: On World Tourism day, dozens of members of Unemployed Tourism Professionals Association (JKUTPA) staged a sit-in-protest at Pratap Park here on Wednesday.
The protesters demanded that government should implement Rehbar-e-Seyahat (tourism) scheme in the tourism department in Jammu and Kashmir.
Muzafar Ahmad Dar, one of the protesters asked the government to take initiatives similar to ones taken in education, agriculture and sports departments.
“The scheme was already approved and decided in 2008 by the PDP-Congress alliance, but due to the Amarnath land row, the scheme was not implemented,” he said.
Another candidate said that there were more about 200 such graduates trained in tourism administration and management and none of them could find a job because of the “apathy” of the concerned department.
