Math society aghast over ‘diversion’ of posts

Srinagar: Kashmir Mathematical Society (KMS) has expressed concern over what it called diversion of the posts of mathematics teachers at college level to other disciplines.
In a statement issued here, KMS said the recent rationalization of Assistant Professor positions at college level circulated by JK Higher Education department was sheer injustice with the subject as well as aspirants waiting for these positions for a quite lone time.
The statement said that it expected more than 80 positions for the subject to be advertised by the JK PSC. The number of positions available at college level reflected by the government earlier, “was more than 42 in mathematics out of 469 Assistant Professor positions”.
“The enrollment in mathematics at college level is increasing day by day in the state. All colleges in Jammu and Kashmir teach mathematics subject for almost all streams. On the other hand, for last two decades, only contractual teachers are serving in the colleges,” the statement said.
It asked upon the Higher Education department to retain the positions of Assistant Professors in Mathematics and “not play with the careers”.
