Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday questioned for the second consecutive day business leader Mohammad Yasin Khan at the NIA headquarters in New Delhi. Khan has been asked to report back for questioning on Wednesday.
Khan was given the NIA summon by J&K Police on Friday and was asked to come to the NIA headquarters on Monday to be questioned as “witnesses” in the case the NIA registered to probe alleged funding for “subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir”.
Khan is chairperson of the Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and president of the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF). “The questioning of Khan started around 11am and continued for nine hours up to 8pm,” KEA secretary general Bashir Ahmad told Kashmir Reader. “Khan has been again called for questioned by the NIA on Wednesday,” he added.
Three trade leaders are accompanying Khan to Delhi, Ahmad said.
Ahmad said that he could not talk to Khan about the NIA questioning today “as he was too tired”.
Ahmad said that the day-long questioning of Khan was a cause of concern for the entire traders’ fraternity. “When Khan did not come out of NIA office, we received dozens of calls from traders, Bar Association, and people (asking about him),” he said.
Kashmir University student Aala Fazili was also questioned for hours today.
NIA spokesperson Alok Mittal in a one-liner statement to Kashmir Reader said, “Mohammad Yaseen Khan and Aala Fazli were examined today.”
The NIA has also summoned Naseem Geelani, son of Hurriyat Conference chief Syed Ali Geelani, for questioning. It is the third time that NIA has called Naseem for questioning to Delhi.
The NIA spokesperson did not answer queries about Naseem.
The NIA has also summoned 85-year-old Tehreek-e-Hurriyat member Shah Wali Muhammad to Delhi.
