Baramulla: The army on Monday claimed to have killed one more unidentified militant in Kalgay area of Uri along the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Official sources said that after three militants were killed in the area on Sunday, the government forces halted the search operation in the evening but kept the area under cordon. The searches were resumed Monday morning and they found that one more militant was alive in a house. Officials said that he opened fire on government troops, following which he was killed.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 19 infantry division, Baramulla, General RP Kalita confirmed that one more militant was killed during a search operation on Monday morning. “When the teams of army resumed the search operation on Monday morning, a militant who was in a house, alive, fired on our army teams but the alert forces killed the militant in retaliation. Our search operation is still continuing,” Gen Kalita said.
Civilians living in the area said that they heard fresh firing on Monday morning from near the site of the gunfight that occurred the previous day. The locals said that no civilian was allowed to go to the Kalgay village on Monday. Kalgay is very close to the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway near the Salamabad trade centre and is also very close to Line of Control.
Three militants were killed in a day-long encounter in Kalgay area on Sunday. Police and army said they had sneaked across the LoC but were spotted by alert troops. Four civilians, including a woman, and an army soldiers were injured during the gunfight. The condition of all of them is stable now.
