SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Monday strongly condemned curfew and curbs in Old City, Srinagar saying these tactics by government reflect its “dictatorial approach” towards the people of Kashmir.
A spokesperson of the conglomerate in a statement said the Old City is targeted every time any incident happens anywhere in Kashmir. He said by raising the bogey of maintaining law and order, the whole population of the area is repeatedly made hostage in their own homes by imposing curfews.
He said restrictions in the Old City create immense trouble for people including students and patients and is part of the policy of government’s revenge against people.
The spokesperson said heavy deployment of forces around the central Jamia Masjid on Fridays is a major cause of concern for the people and leads to tension in the area. He said authorities should withdraw forces from there.
“The aggressive tactics by government, curfew, restrictions, and atrocities can’t suppress people for raising their voice of justice and demands of basic political right. It has become government’s policy to harass people and create problems for them on one pretext or other,” he said.
