Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday summoned a Kashmir University student to its headquarters in New Delhi for questioning on Monday.
Aala Fazili, a PhD scholar and resident of Humhama, is doing research at the department of pharmaceutical sciences at KU. Fazili told Kashmir Reader over phone that the summons was delivered at his department by police station Nigeen.
He said that in the notice addressed to him, he has been asked to report to NIA headquarters for questioning in connection with the “undersigned” case. “There is no mention of the case, just a reference number,” he said.
This is for the first time that the NIA has issued a summons to a student in its investigation into alleged funding for “subversive” activities in Kashmir. The NIA has earlier raided houses and offices of several pro-freedom leaders and businessmen. A photojournalist and a farmer have also been arrested by the agency.
Faheem Aslam, Public Relations Officer to the KU Vice-Chancellor, said that he had no information about any KU student being summoned by NIA.
KU Chief Proctor Naseer Iqbal also said he had no official communication from the NIA asking a varsity student to report to New Delhi. “I heard someone saying that one of our scholars has been summoned by NIA. But, officially, we have no information about it,” Iqbal said.
