SRINAGAR: Vice Chairperson J&K Handicrafts (Sales & Export Corporation) Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat on Thursday chaired a meeting to review business activities of the corporation and discussed various avenues for further promotional innovative strategies. Managing director, FA&CAO and deputy general manager of the corporation gave a detailed account of working of the corporation.
According to an official press note issued here, the meeting highlighted the business strategy to meet out the daily expenditure and steps taken to promote the handicrafts sector. Bhat said the change of course of business from the traditional way to innovative methods could put the corporation back on track.
Bhat stated that J&K Handicrafts Corporation has been established for providing market cover to artisans/craft persons of the state. He said, “The handicraft sector cannot survive in the state without revisiting its history and its sanctity cannot be maintained without linking it with original ethos and Kashmir identity.”
He also stated that because of its inherent resilient character and sanctity attached to it, it has overcome the odds. He said the handicrafts industry which provides livelihood to poor artisans and craft persons of the state is a trust for posterity.
It was decided during the meeting that J&K Handicrafts Corporation seeks possible financial support from state government for revival of handicraft industry and the corporation can also take assistance from Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, NGOs for survival of handicrafts industry and identity of Kashmir, the Vice Chairperson said.
The corporation instead of becoming a cushion for promotion and protection of artisans is presently overburdened with its liabilities and government has to come for rescue so as to come out of the present financial crisis, the press note read.
Bhat called upon the employees and stake holders to co-operate with the management in revival through extra efforts and dedication.
He also reviewed Handloom Development Corporation with its Managing Director and other officers of the corporation in pursuance to the board decisions.
