Protest against doctor’s ‘negligence’ leading to old woman’s death

Bandipora: Family members of an old-aged woman staged protest against hospital staff alleging negligence of doctors led to her death at district hospital Bandipora on Wednesday.
The family members of 80-year old Rehti Begum wife of Mohammad Shaban of Kema Village in Bandipora was brought to Bandipora hospital at around 3 pm on Wednesday after she complained of chest pain. Her family members said a doctor on duty examined her only once and despite repeated requests didn’t bother to attend the patient writhing in pain.
The attendants said, “We approached the doctor on duty and informed about the worsening condition of patient but the doctor refused to attend her.”
“The old lady died only due to carelessness of the doctor,” the relatives alleged. “We demand stern action against the doctor and the concerned BMO,” they said.
Officials said the Medical Superintendent was in Srinagar to attend a meeting. Hospital authorities said they have constituted a team for inquiry to ascertain the facts about the death of the elderly lady. The 6-member team headed by Consultant Medicine Dr Sajjad Parvaiz shall submit the report within 48 hours.
Chief Medical Officer Bandipora Dr Bilqees Mir said that a team of doctors would be selected to conduct an enquiry into the lady’s death who “according to my knowledge had history of high blood pressure.
