Another video of man named in his ‘confession’ also surfaces
Anantnag: The video of a 30-year-old man whose bullet-riddled body was found a month ago in Imam Sahib area of Shopian has surfaced on social media, showing the man confessing to being a police informer.
Ishtiyaq Ahmad Wagay, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay of Jablipora area in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara town, was found dead with multiple bullet wounds on his body, late evening on August 7.
More than a month later, on Monday, a video uploaded apparently by militants on social media shows Wagay confessing to being an informer for army and police.
This is the first time that some sort of evidence has surfaced regarding the murder of Wagay.
“I am Ishtiyaq Ahmad Wagay alias Raju. Farooq and Saleem Malla asked me to be an informer. I was not ready for it but they forced me,” Wagay, wearing a blue Pathani suit, can be seen saying in the video, while somebody behind the camera keeps urging him to speak “the truth”.
He names a certain Sameer Ahmad Pandit of Jablipora and accuses him of being an informer as well, during the one-minute 39-second video.
The barrel of an AK-47 pointed at Wagay is visible in the video.
Wagay, speaking in Kashmiri, confesses to have informed the police about the location of many militants.
“What did you get out of it? Aren’t we your brothers? Have we left our homes for ourselves? We have picked up the gun for our deen (religion),” the voice behind the camera and the gun barrel can be heard saying. To these questions, Wagay meekly answers that he got nothing out of it and he was forced to do so.
There is another video of the same man making confessions in Urdu, apparently shot at the same time as the first one.
A senior police official from Bijbehara told Kashmir Reader that the video has been taken note of by the police. He said that the police have known all along how Wagay was lured into going to Shopian and then killed.
“He was lured by one of his neighbours to Shopian and handed over to militants there. The guy who lured him, Adil Bhat alias Badam, has since joined the militants as well,” the official said.
The police official called the video as “half truth”.
“If they (militants) are misleading the people with such videos and making them believe that the murdered person was an informer, they should also have the guts to name their organisation and tell the people what outfit they belong to,” the official said.
Besides, he said, the poor man is seen speaking before the barrel of a gun.
“Anybody will say what the gunman wants him to say,” the police official said.
Another video that found its way to social media today is of the Saleem Ahmad Pandit that Wagay named in his confession.
The police official confirmed that the man in the video was Pandit and that he was picked up by the militants days after Wagay had been killed.
“He was released after two days. I guess the video had been shot back then and has been released now,” the police official said.
Pandit can also be seen confessing to getting some stone-pelters arrested, who remained under detention for about a month.
In this one-minute 15-second video, Pandit says that he was paid money by an Anantnag-based renegade turned army commander to keep an eye on his neighbours.
“I was paid ten thousand rupees to keep an eye on around four to five of my neighbours to see if militants visited their house,” Pandit says in the video.
