Baramulla: The people from dozens of villages of Tangmarg area of Baramulla district are up in arms against the authorities for alleged delay in macdamization of Chandilora-Ratnipora road for many months. The people had been given to understand that the road blacktopping would be done in June but it eventually hit a roadblock.
They alleged that road is being ignored due to some local political issues. They said the macadamization work should have been done now. If it is delayed to October or November, it would be wastrage of resources. The blacktopping will not be effective,” the villagers said. They said that former agriculture minister’s village is located on the same road.
The people of the villages Hariwatnoo, Ratinpora, Bichipora and Madam Towkalpora threatened protests if the road was not taken up for development. They said that the road has developed potholes and hampers smooth run of vehicles.
“We appealed Tangmarg legislator to use his good offices to macadamize the road but nothing was done. It seems we have to take to streets to protest which seems only solution to our problems”, said a group of people.
The villagers alleged that macadamization is deliberately delayed due to political tussle. They said blue-eyed contractors have been allotted work and they take them up on their own wishes and fancies.
Sources said 2-kilometer stretch between Chandilora and Hariwatnoo has been earmarked for blacktopping. When the matter was taken up with concerned minister he assured that four additional kilometers will be macadamized upto Hardu Ichloo. However, despite floating tenders for the road, the work has not been started.
Assistant executive engineer R&B Tangmarg Fayaz Ahmad Mir said he would look into the matter to address the problem. He said, “The contractor has to submit additional CDR in the department that has affected macadamization,” he said. He said there was no political reason for delay in road blacktopping.
