Srinagar: The arrmy on Saturday claimed to have killed two militants in Machil village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district along the Line of Control.
An army statement said the militants were killed in an infiltration bid and two weapons were recovered from them. As Machil village lies along the border, nothing could be ascertained independently.
Official sources in the army said that army’s 45 RR posted at Gautam post in Machil found some suspicious movement in the wee hours of Saturday, and a gunfight ensued when the militants were challenged for their identity. Two AK-47 rifles and war-like stores were recovered from them, the army spokesperson said.
Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain, confirmed that police had received bodies of two non-local militants from the army. He said the slain were buried in Machil in a local graveyard.
