Srinagar: Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umar on Thursday said it is the moral duty of all people and nations to persuade the Government of India to stop the use of lethal weapons against the people of Kashmir for demanding their basic political rights.
This was said during an executive council meeting of APHC members was held under the chairmanship of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq here at the Hurriyat headquarters Rajbagh.
The meeting was attended by executive members Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone, Muhammad Musadiq Adil and Mukhtar Ahmed Waza.
The meeting unanimously said that the strong censuring of the Government by the Amnesty International with regard to the indiscriminate and inhuman inhuman use of pellet guns against the people of Kashmir based on facts and figures , should serve as an eye opener to all champions of human rights in India and world over and should shake the conscience of nations across the globe. The report highlights the plight of people of Kashmir and the reign of terror unleashed upon them by the use of pellets among other atrocities committed upon them, that have killed scores of people and left hundreds of youth partially or fully blinded or maimed and injured since last year in Kashmir.
APHC said it is the moral duty of all humans and nations to persuade the GoI to stop the use of these lethal weapons against the people of Kashmir for demanding their basic political rights.
The spokesman said that the meeting strongly condemned the frequent CASO operations conducted by the armed forces in the valley especially in South Kashmir villages ,turning the villages into a garrison and keeping the entire population caged and hostage for hours together causing them great distress.
The meeting also condemned the continued policy of oppression and suppression against the people of Kashmir by the authorities especially the killing of youth, arresting and detaining them under one pretext or the other, and persecuting them and their families to harass and intimidate them.
Members in the meeting said that the arrests of Hurriyat leaders activists businessmen journalists and students by the NIA and the frequent raids being carried and notices send to people from all walks of life in Kashmir by the agency is an obvious attempt to intimidate and malign the leadership and those associated with the people’s movement and to defame and degrade the people’s political struggle itself.leadership said these tactics have failed in the past and are destined to fail yet again and can in no way undo the people’s political movement. They said that those in power need to understand that the people’s political movement in kashmir is not because of hurriyat, but hurriyat is there because of the movement. Its is a peoples movement and will sustain till the objective is achieved .
The meeting reiterated that the Kashmir dispute is essentially a political and human issue and not resolving it keeps increasing the huge threat to peace and stability not only in the sub-continent but entire South Asia and the globe .The meeting observed that it is because of the Kashmir issue that the two nuclear powers are always in the confrontational mode as a consequence of which the power equation in the region keeps shifting and is in a flux ,posing a great danger to world peace . It is also taking a toll on the people living on the both sides of LoC .The meeting said that it is the moral responsibility of India and Pakistan to accept the ground realities and to take concrete steps towards final settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per the wishes and aspirations of its people.
