Srinagar: The “Khelo Sehat Ke Liye (Play for Health)” football tournament which was inaugurated by the Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Baghat and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari on August 30, will formally commence from Wednesday at four different venues across Kashmir.
In a statement a spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association said the matches will be played at four venues in Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipora and Anantnag simultaneously from Wednesday onwards. Similarly, he said, the matches in Jammu division are expected to start from next week in Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua and Udhampur.
Teams from Government Degree Colleges, Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges are participating in the state level event which is being organised by the Health and Medical Education Department in association with the J&K Sports Council on knock-out basis.
The arrangements for the tournament have been made by the J&K Football Association in collaboration with Department of Health and Medical Education, Department of Higher Education, J&K Sports Council, National Health Mission and J&K State AIDS Control Society. The slogan of the tournament is “Khelo Sehat Ke Liye (Play for Health)”
The event has been organised with an aim to devise a long term strategy to hold regular sports events in future for the benefit of the doctors, medical students and those of other educational institutions. The football players who are participating in this tournament have hailed this step taken by the government.
The winning, runner-up and the third runner-up teams will get cash prizes besides trophies. The semifinals and the final of the event is scheduled to be played at TRC Synthetic Turf Football Stadium in Srinagar.
