SRINAGAR: Under the banner of Kashmir Young Journalists Association, scores of journalists on Monday held a protest demonstration against the arrest of photojournalist Kamran Yousuf by National Investigation Agency.
Journalists associated with several organisations assembled at Press Enclave and held a salient demonstration, demanding the immediate release Yousuf, a freelance photojournalist contributing his photos and videos to several organizations including local daily Greater Kashmir.
Participants reiterated the demand that NIA should make the charges slapped on Yousuf public. Hoping that Home Minister Rajnath Singh would stand up to his assurances given by him to a journalists’ delegation on Monday morning, the association said that the local government as well as in New Delhi should not muzzle the press freedom in Kashmir. “We demand that the charges levelled against Kamran Yousuf should be made public so that we could understand the reason behind his arrest,” a member of the association told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the association’s demand is to release the photojournalist immediately as there was no case registered against him. “Is clicking photographs a crime?” questioned a participant.
