Srinagar: The government has decided to allow Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik to go to Delhi where they will present themselves for arrest at the NIA headquarters on Saturday.
Sources said that Mirwaiz and Malik will reach the residence of Geelani at Hyderpora at 11am, from where they will leave for the airport together. “The flight tickets are booked at 2PM. The three leaders will leave Hyderpora before 1 PM,” sources said. “Geelani, who is aged and medically not so fit, will be accompanied by someone for his medical care and other help.”
Director General of J&K Police, Shesh Paul Vaid, told Kashmir Reader, “We have no issue if they go peacefully.”
Last Wednesday, Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik had announced that they will go to Delhi on Saturday and “give themselves up for arrest before Gabbar Singh (referring to NIA)”.
Malik had equated NIA with the character of Gabbar Singh, the villain in the popular Hindi movie Sholay.
Top sources in Hurriyat Conference said that Malik drove to Hyderpora at 4pm today and held a closed-door meeting with Geelani for more than half an hour.
“If the programme of Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik is successful, it will be first time that the trio will fly together to any place,” said a Srinagar-based journalist.
The trip to Delhi of the resistance leaders will coincide with Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Srinagar, where he is scheduled to meet a cross-section of people.
