Smugglers attack forest officials in Rafiabad, 3 injured

Baramulla: A team of forest officials was attacked by suspected smugglers in Laiser village in Rafiabad on Wednesday. The team comprised of Range officer Rafiabad Abdul Qayoom Malla, Block Officer Junaid Bashir and other staff. In the attack three officials, Harvinder singh, Suhail Ahmad and Hilal Ahmad were injured.
Officials identified the assailant smugglers as Showket Khan and Bashir Khan, sons of Nazir Khan, residents of Balhama, Naribal Rafiabad.
Officials said that around 19.42 cft of timber was also seized on the spot. Range officer Rafiabad Abdul Qayoom Malla said that department was facing manpower shortage, hampering its operations.
He added a case under FIR number 42/2017 under 6 Forest Act and 379 RPC has been registered at Police station Dangiwacha.
