Of the 822 members 606 (75%) cast their votes
SRINAGAR: The annual election to the Executive Committee of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) was conducted Thursday from 9:00 AM as per the amended provision of the Articles of the Association of the Chamber. According to an official statement, of the 822 members of the chamber 606 (75%) cast their votes till 4:00 PM. It was for the first time that votes were cast personally by the owners, directors and proprietors without using proxy. According to the statement, the previous system of voting by proxy was not allowed as per the amended Articles of Association of the Chamber.
The election process has been carried out under the supervision of the Election Commission of the KCC&I consisting of A. M. Matto (chairman), Dr. Mubeen Shah (member) and Nazir Ahmad Wani (member).
The polling for the election was conducted by the seven member polling committee consisting M. I. Shahdad (chairman), G.M. Dug (member), Abdul Hamid Punjabi (member), Javed Burza (member), Fayaz Ahmad, Alfa (member), Ashok Jain (member), Jagmohan Singh Raina(member)
The polling process was peaceful and the process of counting of votes will start today and the result of the poll shall be announced in the 83rd annual general meeting of the chamber scheduled to be held on 14th of September, 2017 at Amar Sing Club, Sonwar, Srinagar.
