IGP cavalcade stoned in Pulwama

PULWAMA: Government forces resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling in Tengpuna village here, after the cavalcade of IGP CRPF operations was attacked with stones, local sources said.
The incident took place when the IGP was returning from District Police Lines (DPL) in Pulwama.
Sources said that IGP operations visited the District Police Lines in Pulwama, which was stormed by three militants on Saturday.
Four CRPF personnel and four Police personnel were killed and few others injured in the attack. Three Jaish-e-Mohammad Fidayeen were also killed.
Sources said that the cavalcade was on way to Awnantipora from Pulwama when the incident took place. As soon as people of Tengpuna saw the cavalcade, scores of them started raising slogans and throwing stones. However, they were dispersed by aerial firing and tear smoke shelling, said a villager.
SSP Pulwama said that “some miscreants” pelted stones at the IGP’s cavalcade. However, he denied any aerial firing by forces saying “some tear smoke shells were fired to disperse the miscreants.”
