Colleges shut for 4th day in Kupwara

BARAMULLA: Colleges and higher secondary schools in Kupwara district remained shut for fourth day on Monday after the killing of a college student in an alleged fake encounter last week.
The district administration had ordered suspension of class work, to prevent potential student protests.
Others schools, however, resumed classes on Monday.
Last week, a final year student of Government Degree College Handwara Shahid Ahmad Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, of Daril village of Tarathpora Handwara was allegedly killed by a group of army’s 6 RR in Hangikote forests in a fake encounter and proclaimed as a foreign militant. Later he was identified as a civilian with no links to militancy. The father of the slain youth has alleged that his son was abducted by army and then killed in a fake encounter for the promotions and awards.
