Srinagar: A deadly road accident on Monday afternoon in Rajouri district of Jammu region took the lives of Mahmood Ahmed, Personal Assistant to the Rajouri District commissioner along with six members of his family who were travelling with him. A police officer from Chingus police station said that a Celerio car, No. JK11B 4300, on its way from Rajouri to Jammu rolled about 50 to 60 ft into a deep gorge near Narian, Rajouri, at 4.55 pm on Monday, resulting in the deaths of all persons in the ill-fated vehicle.
The officer said that the seven deceased all belonged to a single family. He identified the them as: Mehmood Ahmed, age 41 yrs, son of Jaffer Ali; Ahmed’s wife Zamila Begum, age 38 yrs; their children Rehan, age 11 yrs, Alisha, age 9 yrs and Hussnain, age 7 years; Ahmed’s brother Abdul Aziz, age 32 years, and his sister Aktter Begum, age 25 years.
All the deceased were shifted to District Hospital Rajouri.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic deaths.
In her message, the Chief Minister described the deaths as unfortunate. She said the growing number of road accidents in the hilly areas of the state call for a review of the status of passenger safety, vehicle and road conditions and other parametres.
Mehbooba Mufti has conveyed her sympathies to the families of those killed in the accident.
