Electrician injured after shell lying in EDI Pampore since 2016 explodes

PAMPORE: A young electrician was injured on Sunday from the blast of an unexploded shell that was lying in the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building, since October 2016 when two foreign militants were killed in a 3-day-long gunfight.
A police officer told Kashmir Reader that electrician John Mohammad Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Lethpora Awantipora, was injured in the explosion on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the injured was repairing an electrical wire in the damaged EDI building when the accident took place.
He was immediately taken to SMHS Srinagar from where he was referred to the Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzulla for advanced treatment.
The unexploded shell had been lying unattended in the EDI building since the October 2016 gunfight between militants and government forces that lasted three days.
