Srinagar: Eight government forces personnel including 4 police cops and 4 CRPM men have died in gunfight with militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama Saturday, police said. Two militants were also killed the day long gunfight.
The attack was carried out early today at district police lines in south Kashmir’s Pulwama. In the pre-dawn attack, at least three heavily-armed attackers stormed the police lines where hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel are stationed, the police said.
After forcing their way into a police building, militants resorted to indiscriminate firing and threw grenades. That was followed by intense gunfight killing eight forces personnel.
Police Chief SP Vaid told Kashmir Reader that two militant bodies have also been recovered from the encounter site. He added that body of one more militant is expected under the debris.
For over 12 hours, militants engaged the forces in a gunfight who had taken control of two buildings.
A search operation is currently underway, police said.
