BUDGAM: Residents of Gulshanabad in Chrar-e-Sharief Budgam held a protest on Friday after a patient from the locality had to be ferried to hospital on a cot because of a damaged and dug up road.
A large patch of the road had been dug up by an earth mover, to check for water seepage and later left unattended.
“The Public Health and Engineering (PHE) authorities on Thursday evening moved an earth-mover to dig up the road running parallel to a water reservoir to try and plug the leakage which has damaged a large portion of the road,” a resident said over phone.
He added that after failing to fix the problem, the authorities left the spot, leaving the road non-motorable.
The locals after finding that the road was cut off blocked the traffic movement demanding the road should be repaired.
The locals were also aghast against the PHE authorities who had some time ago laid water supply line on the surface of the road, eating into its major portion.
“For past many years, we have been pleading with the authorities to lay the water supply line underground but to no avail,” the locals said.
An official said the road was dug up by the PHE department to try and fix the seepage problem.
“We have sent a senior official for spot inspection. We will macadamize it temporarily for now to make it motorable till the leakage problem is fixed,” he said.
