Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra has moved a separate petition in the Supreme Court in defence of Article 35A.
The Supreme Court accepted Karra’s petition and empanelled him as a private respondent in the Article 35A case, the hearing of which has been deferred till after the festival of Diwali.
According to media reports, Karra’s petition will be argued by former home minister and senior advocate P Chidambaram.
In a press statement, Karra, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Member of Parliament, stated that the very fact that the Government of India did not file objections to the petition challenging Article 35A and the “Attorney General’s out- of- turn and politically motivated stand on it… stands testimony to the nefarious designs of the right-wingers and has once more proved the people’s perception correct about PDP, of its betrayal and ill-gotten loaves of power.”
The Congress leader stated that the ruling PDP was just beating its chest over the issue.
“The rhetoric and public posturing is without any sincerity. The PDP is suffering with optical illusion of regaining its lost ground, day-dreaming of saving itself from public wrath,” he stated.
“PDP stands fully exposed as a collaborator and facilitator for the fascist agenda as it chose not to convince or force its alliance partner to file objections by the Government of India in the court,” he said.
“While BJP is true and steadfast to its fascist agenda, it is PDP which has actually lost its plot by surrendering its ideology and core philosophy to Sangh Parivar through a loosely-knit and unsigned medium called Agenda of Alliance,” Karra stated.
