Srinagar: Enraged followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Friday turned violent after the CBI court held the leader guilty in the 2002 rape case which alleged that he sexually assaulted two of his women followers in his Haryana headquarter, reports said.
As per reports there has been a total blackout in Haryana since the court’s verdict in Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s conviction.
According to media reports, Dera Sacha Sauda supporters have turned violent burning government offices and railway station. In some places the mob eve attacked the media vehicles damaging three OB vans.
A few journalists were injured in the attack, witnesses said. Cameras of photo-journalists and TV cameramen were damaged by the sect followers.
Stone pelting and torching vehicles have also been reported from the area.
Curfew has been clamped in three cities of Punjab namely Bhatinda, Mansa and Ferozepur.
A total of 15 incidents of violence were reported within 45 minutes in Punjab and Haryana after the court verdict became known, reports said.
