SRINAGAR: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday recommended to the state government to pay compensation to the next of kin of a youngster who was shot dead by the government forces in Naidkhai area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora in March 2014.
The commission asked the government to pay a amount of Rs 5 lacs to the next of kin of Farahat Ahmad Dar within a period of eight weeks.
Farahat, 20, hailed from Shahgund who was shot dead by the government forces in Naidkhai area of Bandipora on March 14, 2014 after the Friday protests in the area.
Massive protests amid restrictions and official curbs were witnessed in Bandipora district and adjacent areas against the killing of Farhat. Several people were injured during these protests. The Commission had taken cognizance of the killing. In its report, the commission said that around 6:15 pm, the government directly opened fire on the crowd. Quoting an eye-witness reports said that at least eight persons including Farhat were injured, where as Farhat succumbed to the injuries later.
