The army had issued a statement on Tuesday evening that a non-local militant had been killed in a gunfight in Handwara forests.
On Wednesday when the army handed over the body to police, some locals identified the body as of a civilian, Shahid Ahmad Mir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, resident of Daril Tarathpor Ramhal. Locals said that the boy was missing for the past few days. They said they believe that he was kidnapped and then killed in a staged encounter.
Some sources said that Shahid was a BA 2nd year student of Degree College Handwara, while some others said he was a mentally challenged boy. This reporter could not collect further details till the time this report was filed.
