Anantnag: The body of a former Panchayat member was found in Shangas village of Anantnag with visible injury marks on Monday, police said.
The slain 45-year-old, Shabir Ahmad, son of Abdul Rehman Wani of Shangas village, was found lying on a slab of his one-storey, under-construction house.
Wani is said to have been associated with the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) all through his tenure as a Panchayat member and even up to the present.
A senior police official from the area told Kashmir Reader that the police were informed about the presence of the body at about 9:30 am on Monday morning.
“A team was sent and the body was retrieved. There were minor but visible marks of violence on the head and the face of the slain,” the police official said, adding that the body was handed over to the next-of-kin following the medico-legal formalities.
Police have maintained that an investigation has been taken up into the matter and facts are being ascertained.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that Wani’s body was found on the terrace of his own house, located within the vicinity of the spot where his body was found.
