Anantnag: A worker of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was shot dead on Saturday afternoon by suspected militants in Dialgam area of Anantnag district.
The slain has been identified as 50-year-old Muhammad Ishaq Parray, son of Abdul Gani, a resident of Ugjan village in Dialgam area, less than 6 kilometers from main town Anantnag.
A senior police official confirmed the killing and said that the slain was shot at just outside his house in Ugjan at about 4 PM this afternoon.
“They shot at him from point blank range, killing him almost instantaneously,” the official said.
Medical Superintendent (MS) at the district hospital, Dr Majid Mirab, told Kashmir Reader that Parray was brought dead to the hospital.
“He had a bullet wound through his neck. He was shot in the back of his neck and the bullet made an exit through his throat,” Mirab said.
Body of the slain was handed over to the family for last rites.
PDP district president Javaid Sheikh described Parray as a dedicated party worker and expressed shock over the killing.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is on a three day tour of Ladakh region, has condemned the killing of Ishaq Parray of Dialgam, Anantnag.
In a statement, the Chief Minister described the killing as dastardly and inhuman. She said she has always maintained that violence is not the way to further a political cause but certainly violence has torn apart the social fabric of the State over the past 30 years.
Mehbooba has expressed her condolences with the bereaved family.
