Two soldiers killed in Shopian gun battle, several others injured

Srinagar: Two Indian army soldiers were killed while as several others were injured in the gun battle which rattled a hamlet in Shopian district in South of Kashmir.

The gun battle erupted between government forces and militants in Awneera village of Shopian on Saturday afternoon. Four to five militants are believed to be engaged in a fierce gun battle with the forces.

A police official said that two soldiers were killed in the gun battle while as five to six others were injured in the encounter which is still undergoing.


The soldiers, sources said, belong to 3RR which is based in Anantnag district.

The injured army men were airlifted to 92 base hospital in Badami bagh in Srinagar.
