CM expresses concern over rising road accidents
Jammu: Six persons were killed in Doda on Friday as a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Doda.
The accident occurred on Suigwari-Chirala road near Puneja village, 22 kms from from Doda town.
“Six passengers died and eight others were injured when a Trax, which was on its way to Chirala from Doda town, plunged into a deep gorge,” Doda’s senior superintendent of police Mohammed Shabir said.
The vehicle carrying 13 passengers was on its way to Chirala from Pul Doda when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into 150-feet deep gorge, police officials said.
“Locals along with policemen immediately reached the spot and rescued all trapped passengers from the badly damaged vehicle and shifted them to district hospital Doda, where doctors declared four of them as brought dead including he driver”, the officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Yousaf Khan (80), Om Prakash (30), Fazal Din and Punjab Singh – all belonging to Doda.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is in New Delhi, has expressed shock and grief over the death of six passengers in a road accident at Doda. On hearing of the accident, the Chief Minister directed immediate evacuation of the injured for specialised treatment at Jammu hospitals.
Expressing concern over the rising road accidents and loss of lives, Mehbooba has directed the concerned departments to undertake reviews and field exercises to minimise this trend and save precious lives.
